Welcome to Power Nation

Built on Intensity Driven to Win

Five Time NBL Uganda Champions

Origins (1990s – The Beginning)

Power Basketball Club traces its roots to the 1990s, when the team originally played under the name Baptist Saints in Kampala. The club was formed around church and community basketball activities, with the goal of promoting the sport among youth and building competitive teams.

As the team grew stronger and more competitive, it rebranded to Black Power, marking the beginning of its transformation into a major basketball institution in Uganda.

Founding of the National Basketball League Era (1998)

In 1998, Power (then called Black Power) became one of the founding teams of the Uganda National Basketball League (NBL) organized by the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA).

From this point forward, the club became one of the most recognizable names in Ugandan basketball.

Rise to Dominance (Late 1990s – 2012)

Power quickly established itself as one of the top teams in the country.

Major Achievements 🏆

The club won five National Basketball League championships:

  • 1996
  • 2000
  • 2008
  • 2010
  • 2011

During this era, Power was considered part of the traditional “Big Teams” of Ugandan basketball, competing fiercely with clubs such as Falcons and Kyambogo Warriors.

The team also reached several finals and playoff appearances, helping to build a strong fan base and reputation in Kampala.

Sponsorship & Brand Evolution

Over the years the club has operated under several sponsorship names, reflecting partnerships with major brands.

Notable names include:

  • Sadoline Power
  • D-Mark Power
  • Betway Power

These partnerships helped finance player welfare, team equipment, and club operations.

Competitive Challenges (2013–Present)

After the 2011 championship, Power began facing increasing competition in the NBL, particularly from dominant teams like City Oilers.

While the club remained competitive and reached finals appearances, championships became harder to win.

In 2024, the team experienced one of the most difficult moments in its history when it was relegated from the National Basketball League to Division One after finishing near the bottom of the standings.

Despite the setback, club leadership stated the priority would be fighting for promotion back to the NBL.

Legacy of Power Basketball Club

Power Basketball Club remains one of the most historically significant basketball teams in Uganda.

The club is known for:

  • Developing local basketball talent
  • Being one of the founding NBL franchises
  • Winning five national championships
  • Building a strong basketball culture in Kampala

Its legacy continues as the club works to rebuild and return to the top flight.
